Wide format scanners are manufactured by two major companies, Vidar and Calcomp.  Vidar makes a larger variety, but the Calcomp scanners are more affordable.  Vidar scanners are built in the US, and have a great warranty - 24 months.  Their sturdiness and reliability is unmatched.  The table below is a guide to selecting the proper Vidar scanner.  For more information on any model, click on the heading

TruScan Select - A complete PC desktop scanning system for up to 38" wide drawings (41" throat). Optical resolution of 400 dpi, interpolated resolution 800 dpi. Speeds of 1"/sec at 400 dpi and 2"/sec at 200 dpi. Adaptive Area Thresholding. Complete with Trumfo software for scanning, viewing, archiving and printing.

TruScan Flash - a complete 100 - 1600 dpi PC scanning system designed for environments where productivity, speed, image quality must be the highest. It can scan D-size drawings at 4 ips at 400 dpi.  Handles documents upto 41" wide with a 36" scanning area.  Features include Error Diffusion Dithering for color or grayscale to 1-bit conversion (near photo quality), 400x400 dpi, dual point thresholding for background suppression, and 2D image sharpening for resolving fine details

TruScan Color Classic - 600 dpi, 0.4 ips @400 dpi, scan width 36".

TruScan Designer -28" width, 26" scan width; optical resolution 6OOdpi, interpolated to l6OOdpi, 0.8Bips @ 4OOdpi. Scan documents up to 1/2" thick.

Surveyor High-Accuracy GIS Scanning Solution. Accuracy +/- .05% +/- 1 pixel. Optical resolution 4OOdpi, interpolated up to l6OOdpl, 0.8ips @ 4OOdpi, scan width 40"  Includes: CopyEssentials copying SW, Autographics digital map extraction SW, EasyScan scan to file SW.

Atlas - Optical resolution 400dpi, interpolated to 8OOdpi, 0.4ips @ 4OOdpi. Scan width 40", up to 1/2" thick documents.

Atlas Pro - Optical resolution 4OOdpl, Interpolated to 1600 dpil, 0.8 ips  @ 4OOdpi. Scan width 40", up to 1/2" thick documents.

Latitude - 52" scanner. Will accept documents up to 1/2" thick and has a scan width of 52". Optical resolution of 400 dpi, interpolated to 800 dpi, 0.6ips@400 dpi.

Titan II - Large format color scanner solution for color reprographics, GIS integration of color maps, graphics copying and others. 100 - 800 dpi scalable resolution, .4 ips @ 400 dpi. Designed for high quality scans without sacrificing speed or mechanical use of scanner for many years. Titan scanning control software for RGB or quantizatlon ability down to 8-bit or less palettes through simple color grid selection. 40" scan width. Includes: Trumfo software, 2940 SCSI bd., cable and manual.

CALCOMP SCANNERS

Calcomp scanners are manufactured in Europe and re-marketed in the US by Calcomp.  They carry a one-year warranty, and are less expensive than their Vidar counterparts.  Click on the model to check the specifications on the different models.
